Cinna: The Clemency of Augustus
A long time Lou Harrison collaborator and UC-Santa Cruz Ethnomusicologist Linda Burman-Hall performed Harrison’s “Cinna”, or “Suite for Tack Piano,” accompanied by a reading of CINNA: THE CLEMENCY OF AUGUSTUS by Pierre Corneille (16th Century French Dramatist) for which Harrison composed the music. Harrison imagined this play to be staged with puppets; however, his vision was never realized. A pioneer of modern shadow theatre Larry Reed will create shadow sequences that will complete the dramatic evening, paying homage to Lou Harrison’s innovative spirit.
